Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite challenges Apple’s M3 with 21% faster CPU performance

Qualcomm has unveiled its latest and most powerful processor for Windows PCs, the Snapdragon X Elite, which it claims offers 21% faster CPU performance than Apple’s M3 chip. The Snapdragon X Elite is a 4nm system-on-chip platform featuring a custom-integrated Qualcomm Oryon CPU with 12 cores clocked at up to 4.3 GHz. The platform has an Adreno GPU that can deliver up to 4.6 teraflops of graphics performance and can support two 5K displays or three 4K displays.

But the Snapdragon X Elite isn’t just about raw speed. It is designed to enable powerful on-device AI experiences, thanks to the integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU, which can run generative AI models with over 13 billion parameters. Qualcomm says the Snapdragon X Elite has 4.5 times faster AI processing power than its competitors and can support tasks such as voice recognition, natural language processing, image editing, and video conferencing.

Snapdragon X Elite promises to deliver the most efficient processor in a PC with multi-day battery life. Qualcomm says the platform can match its rivals’ highest performance with one-third the power consumption and last up to twice the competition in terms of battery life. The platform also supports 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity as well as Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which can enable context-aware and always-on features.

Qualcomm expects the first PCs powered by the Snapdragon X Elite to arrive in mid-2024 from leading OEMs such as Lenovo, HP, Dell, and Samsung. The company says that the Snapdragon X Elite will revolutionize the PC market by delivering a new level of performance, efficiency, and intelligence that enables users to create, collaborate, and share like never before.
