Motorola to launch Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship in Q2 or Q3 2024

Motorola fans may have to wait a few more months before they can get their hands on the company’s latest flagship smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. According to a report, the device is expected to be released as the Edge 50 Pro in Europe and the Edge+ (2024) in North America, following the naming scheme of its predecessors.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is the most advanced processor in Qualcomm’s portfolio, offering up to 30% faster performance and 25% better power efficiency than the previous generation. It also supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and 120Hz displays. The chipset has already been adopted by several Android OEMs, such as ASUS, OnePlus, Samsung, and Xiaomi, who have launched their flagship models in the first quarter of 2024.

Motorola, however, has been relatively quiet on the flagship front, focusing instead on its mid-range offerings, such as the Moto G Play 2024, Moto G04, and Moto G24. The company has a history of being one of the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 series chips, as it did with the Edge X30 and the Moto X40, which were the world’s first smartphones to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, respectively.

The report suggests that Motorola is aiming for a Q2 2024 launch window for its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship, which would coincide with the first anniversary of the Moto X40’s global variants. However, it also notes that Motorola usually releases its flagship models in China first, and there is a four-month gap between the Chinese and global versions. This means that the Edge 50 Pro and the Edge+ (2024) may not arrive until Q3 2024.

There is no official confirmation from Motorola about its Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 flagship, nor any details about its specifications, features, design, or pricing. However, based on the previous models, it is likely that the device will sport a curved OLED display, a high-resolution camera system, a large battery, and a premium build quality. Motorola fans will have to wait and see if the company can deliver a competitive and compelling flagship smartphone in 2024.
