Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 16 lineup later this year, and one of the most anticipated features is the new A18 Pro chip that will power the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. According to a leaked Geekbench 6 result, the A18 Pro could deliver impressive performance gains over the current A17 Pro chip and even surpass the M3 Macs in single-core performance.
The Geekbench 6 score, which was posted by Nguyen Phi Hung, a reputable leaker in the Android world, shows that the A18 Pro scored 3,500 in single-core tests and 8,200 in multi-core tests. This is a significant improvement over the A17 Pro, which scored around 2,900 and 7,500 respectively in the same tests. The A18 Pro also beats the M3 Max chip, which scored around 3,070 and 10,000 in single-core and multi-core tests respectively.
The A18 Pro is rumored to be based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, which is more efficient and cost-effective than the first-generation 3nm process used for the A17 Pro. This could explain the higher performance and lower power consumption of the A18 Pro. The A18 Pro is also likely to feature enhanced AI capabilities, as Apple is reportedly working on improving Siri and other machine learning features in iOS 18.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are also expected to feature A18-branded chips, but they may not be as powerful as the A18 Pro. This would be a departure from the previous years, where all iPhone models shared the same chip. However, this could also allow Apple to differentiate the iPhone 16 Pro models from the regular ones, and justify the higher price tag.
